| | The quiet, stillness that happens at this time of year... that's where the magic happens. Riding the barrage of hype and rush and gaining a foothold on my inner-life is a struggle. I became Catholic a couple years ago and the Catholic purists see Advent as a time of quiet reflection, waiting for you-know-who. I have totally embraced that. The decorations don't go up until Christmas Eve. The fun parts happen ON Christmas day and the following eleven days.
Purple is "in" this winter according to the fashion police. Purple and lavender have always been (not sure since when) the color for Advent. The priests wear purple or lavender vestments and the Blessed Sacrament is curtained in lavender. Why lavender? It is a color of penitence. Oo, fun. No Christmas music, no decorations. No pressure, except to slow down and look around and see if anyone needs help.
Anyway, I can't write now. I picked late morning to sit and reflect and everyone around me wants to get moving out in the winter wonderland. I will take pictures of our local blizzard.
Check out http://www.buynothingchristmas.org/ if you haven't already. I bought stuff this year and made nothing. And thanks to the snow, I didn't support my local businesses. Next year. |
